On Saturday at 2:45 am, February 18, 2012 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the angels and her family, Marjorie (Mary Margis) Riggs Valerie, 82, was escorted by Jesus to enjoy “The place that has been prepared for her”. Marjorie, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Eunice Riggs was born in Lawtell, Louisiana on December 6, 1929.
She was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and served in the “Christian Mothers”ministry.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved family, cooking, sewing, and crocheting.. She will be remembered for her “Big Heart”, Kindheartedness, and Wisdom”. She opened her home to family members on a “needs be” basis. With the emerging of “Blended Families”, her love and acceptance was equally given.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her spouse of 60 years Alexander Valerie, Jr., her parents Lawrence and Eunice Riggs, twin great-grand children, Brandon and Taylor Law, and godson Gary Hawkins.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son Henry Valerie of Lake Charles, La; three-loving daughters Patricia Valerie of Houston, Tx; Gloria (Hafeez) Molake of Missouri City, Tx, and Patsy (Danny) Bellard of Lake Charles, La; two brothers Ollie (Audrey) Riggs of Lake Charles and Lawrence (Connie) Riggs, Jr of Massapequa, New York. Three sisters Dora Hawkins, Bernice White, and Bernadell (Andrew) White of Opelousas, La. Two brother-in-laws Willie (Vivian) Valerie of Lake Charles and William (Barbara) Valerie of Katy, Tx; one sister-in-law Helen Richard of Lake Charles. Fourteen grandchildren Donald (Jacqueline), Wuan (Laquisha), Dana, Ladetra, Tamika (Lloyd), Angela (Darrell), Robert Jr. (Rokena), Willie Jr. (Naomi), Omar (Sherell), Kristi (Blane), Erika (Terrance), Mechon (Willie, Jr.), Morgan and Ross. Twenty-three great-grandchildren Whitney, Jr., Fola-Sade, Talesha, Pearlsander, Skylar, Robin, Robinesha, Kentrell, Darrell, Jr., Brea, Dyamond, Joshua, Kamron, Willie, III, Ken, D’General, Chelsey, Erin, Aaron, Chloe, Amari, Ethan, and London; two great-great grandchildren Jayden and Aaliyah; godchildren Willie Bellard, Jr., Bernadell White, Patricia Gobert, and Brenda Minix.
Also cherishing her memories is her extended family (special daughter-Sandra Chretien), friends Catherine Paddio, Willie Mae Vital, Lou Daniels, Eltra Bilbo, and Geraldine Simonette, and daughter-in-law Rosalind Valerie, also a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services for Marjorie R. Valerie will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2031 Opelousas Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana with the Very Reverend Marcus Johnson, V.F., officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana from 9:00 am to 11:40 am. The Christian Mothers will conduct a Rosary at 10:00 am.
